general queries answered by Prof. Mark Dyer

Hi Prof. Mark Dyer,

my name is Johnnie Chu and I have a few questions
With regards to the 2E9 project.
  1. One of the conditions was that we had to
"construct the shelter from recyclacble materials and have a maximum cost of 100 euro in Ireland"
  • Does this mean that we have to source the material in Ireland. Ideally in Ireland otherwise the import costs could excessive
  • If however we are able to ship it from abroad, is the shipment cost included in the 100 euro. Yes
  • is the 100 euro included in the recycling, before and after, the materials use €100 is set aside for acquiring the materials and assembling the shelter

    2.   When you say that the shelter must be light and portable

does this imply that the shelter wil be carried everyday by the
person using the shelter or will they be kept in warehouses until
they are needed in the aftermath of a natural disaster
or both ? The shelter is for an homeless person in Dublin. It could be stored in the daytime

   3.  If our group has the privilege of constructing our design
will Trinity provide the money for the materials. I will check that the school will repay the €100

  4.  In terms of the sketch pad.

I am slightly confused because you said that we have to put in our sketches and designs
for the shelter but our group have already split each member into a subgroup (materias , structure, ethics, multimedia)
and myself as materials, so I was just wondering
since I won't be puting in any design sketches for the structure of the shelter
what would I put in sketchpad? The sketch pad will include your ideas on materials as part of the group and by doing so will refer to other past examples and designs where such materials are used.

Thank you for help.

Week 1

Ok, so the 2e3 project is a go!! As you might guess form the title, the group is a mixture of the first three groups of D so we have ten in the group. The aim of this project is to create a shelter for two homeless people for under €100 which must have various other attributes.
The first order of business during our first meeting was to elect a project leader/chairperson. That chairperson is now Johnnie, with me, Ciarán as the secretary. We also chose Niall  and Stephen to take care of the multimedia part of the project, as we need to submit a Youtube video at the end of this project, and to set-up this blog post and help run it.
After that had been sorted out, we decided that for next week we would all research specific areas in the project. They are materials, the structure and the needs of the homeless person. three people were appointed to each group and they will show the group their research next Friday.
Till then,
See ya,
Ciarán.
